History of St John: The city is a rich center for history and culture. St. John is home to the Virgin Islands National Park, established under a program started by Laurance Rockefeller in 1956 and one of its chief attractions. Since than the designated VINP on St. John has increased to 7,200 acres and another 5,600 underwater acres as well. This is roughly 80 percent of the island pristine untouched, including some stunning white sand beaches.
